Top 5 books that most influenced my life...

#5 The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri
http://www.amazon.com/The-Divine-Comedy/dp/B0011T1SAA/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1309305483&sr=1-5
Dante has a way with words like no other human in history! He makes all other poetry look like chicken scratch.

#4 The Orthodox Church by Timothy Ware
http://www.amazon.com/Orthodox-Church-New-Timothy-Ware/dp/0140146563/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1309305380&sr=1-1
Given to me by Fr. Alexander Protos. This book laid out beautifully the history of Eastern Christianity and articulated well the essential doctrines of Orthodox Faith and Worship. I couldn't put it down. A splendid book!

#3 The Interior Castle by St. Teresa of Avila
http://www.amazon.com/Interior-Castle-Teresa-%C3%81vila/dp/1594480052/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1309305110&sr=1-1
This book opened my eyes to the beauty of "mystical literature". St. Teresa caused me to look inside myself and see the beauty that lies within. Two lessons that stuck with me:

One: The further you progress on your Christian journey "the light gets lighter and the dark gets darker".
In other words the closer you get to God the more brilliant His glory and majesty becomes. Further the darkness of sin seems more grave than you once thought before.

Two: "If you want to progress on the spiritual journey the important thing is not to think much but to love much!" Thank you St. Teresa for your spiritual wisdom!

#2 Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
http://www.amazon.com/Christianity-Lewis-Signature-Classics-ebook/dp/B002BD2UR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=digital-text&qid=1309304487&sr=1-1
I got a headache the first time I read this book, it was nearly over my head. C.S. Lewis opened my eyes to a new depth of christian apologetics and practical spiritual wisdom.

#1 The Strangest Way: Walking the Christian Path by Fr. Robert Barron
http://www.amazon.com/Strangest-Way-Walking-Christian-Path/dp/157075408X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1309304671&sr=1-1
This book was given to me by my Spiritual Director Fr. Martin Linebach. This book has shaped the direction of my spiritual life since Dec of 2009. Fr. Robert Barron is a phenomenal writer, speaker, teacher and Priest. The book is very practical. Section three "Realizing your life is not about you" was an eye opener it put into context the much bigger reality.
