Awake My Soul

Not sure if you have heard this song yet but it's pretty cool. "Awake My Soul" by Mumford and Sons.

I'm sure you can interpret the song a few different ways. I take it as a story of a man who's begins to discover the empty promises of the devil. "I struggle to find any truth in your lies" "Har Har....." The devil laughs when we fall for his lies. At the same time he's taking an honest look at himself. "And now my heart stumbles on things I dont know, this weakness I feel I must finally show". He finally makes the cry "Awake My Soul" asking God to see the truth as it is. There comes a point in your life that you take joy in accepting your weakness. Learning to trust in God is an awakening. "Awake My Soul for you were made to meet your maker" "where you invest your love, you invest your life".

Strange Way? On Life's Agenda

Here's another strange way, a paradox of christianity.

The basic christian theme that you have to give up your life to gain it!

So often we are preoccupied with our own projects and plans, goals and agendas. We work so diligently to create a life that we think will make us happy. We make ourselves the center of our own lives, everything we do is centered around ourselves and what we think is best.

Thru the eyes of the christian, that's not only folly but funny.

It's precisely when we give up our agendas and allow Gods plans to be the center of our life, that we experience the fullness of joy this life has to offer.

Walking the journey of life with God at the helm is the only way to go! He will show you a way that is higher than you could ever imagine. He will take you to places you never thought you could go! He will do things thru you that will leave you plum speechless.

Thru the eyes of the christian, God knows what's best for us. Give your life to Him so you can experience the love He's always intended for you from the beginning. He wants to change the world thru you!

Give up your plans and see what God has in store for you! Take it one day at a time!

Matthew 16:25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.

Can self pity turn into compassion?

"What you realize toward the end of your life is an overwhelming sence of grief for the time you've spent in foolishness, when you could have been doing something for someone else." John Howard Griffin

Word Up!

Matthew 22:37

"Teacher,  which commandment in the law is the greatest?" He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

So much beauty never understood..

Here is a neat video explaining the theology of typical "French Gothic Cathedral". I'm an avid believer in high art, it raises the hearts and minds of the faithful and educates the lost. They say "a picture paints a thousand words". Can you imagine the entire bible carved in stone...

Vacations should never end...

The Myrtel Beach trip was lots of fun, the kids had a blast. They built volcanos in the sand, snorkeled in the pools and ran till they passed out. I enjoied floating on the lazy river with little Joel in my lap and a cool margarita in my hand. Here are a few pics of the trip.

You can walk on water too...

Matthew 14:22

Then he made the disciples get into the boat and precede him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.  After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone. Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it. During the fourth watch of the night,  he came toward them, walking on the sea.

When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. "It is a ghost," they said, and they cried out in fear. At once Jesus spoke to them, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."

Peter said to him in reply, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water."
He said, "Come." Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.
But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith,  why did you doubt?"

After they got into the boat, the wind died down.  Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, "Truly, you are the Son of God."

Sometimes the storms of our own life can be ferocious. Financial difficulties, death, sickness, disease, turbulent relationships and addictions all seem to create a perfect storm. In these times Jesus calls us to have the faith of Peter, step out in the midst of the storm and keep our eyes him. We can do great things when our eyes are fixed on Jesus, take them off and you will start to sink.

Notice that there were 12 people on the boat and only one had the faith to get out. Would that have been you? Would you step out of the boat?  Have the faith to reach over the bow and keep your eyes on Jesus.  Maybe today you are in the midst of a storm, listen to Jesus "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."

Footprints in the Sand

Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.

This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.

The LORD replied, my precious, precious child, I Love you and I would never leave you! During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.
